Snapshot FY14

FY14 was an uncertain and complex time for action oriented, future focused, responsible businesses, particularly in Australia. Throughout the year SBA maintained commitment to increase its relevance and impact delivering on agreed member initiatives and maximising opportunities to bring SBA member insight and issues to international and domestic policy makers.

Members & Networks

  • Appointed global network partner global World Business Council for Sustainable Development
  • Welcomed 15 new members including Brickworks Limited, David Jones Limited, LJ Hooker and IKEA


  • Authored submission to Australian Government's Innovation Systems Report 2013
  • Founding partner in the establishment of the Australian Business and Biodiversity Initiative
  • Led SBA Member Consortium to secure$1M in Federal Government funding to run the SBA Our Green Home Project (part of the Low Carbon Communities Program)
  • Co-developed and launched the Future Economy Group Report, with Environment Victoria


  • Contributed to over 50 written submissions on issues including:
    • Biodiversity and Eco-Systems Services
    • Carbon Targets
    • Clean Energy Futures package
    • Emissions Reduction Fund
    • International Trade in Environmental Goods
    • International Climate Negotiations
    • Red Tape Reduction
  • Contributed to the ICC Secretariat and led a 3 person delegation to COP19, Warsaw
  • Provided the Secretariat role for the Businesses for a Clean Economy and rolled out a Key Information Program designed to educate State and Federal Government representatives on the critical economic, social and environmental implications of climate policy In Australia


  • Launched the Innovation at the Ready Series 2013
  • Launched the Smart Business in Action Series 2014
  • Ran the Business Program at the Australian Sustainability Conference and Exhibition 2013
  • Launched the Publication SKM / Jacobs Publication Insight Trading
  • Launched the annual Fiona Wain Oration, to honour SBA's immediate past CEO. 2014 address: "Making our own Luck" given by Greg Bourne, Chair, ARENA
  • Showcased over 400 member activities (transactions, achievements, events, reports) via regular SBA communications, website and social media
  • Circulated regular monthly information to SBA members on key sustainability news, events and initiatives
