Media releaseAgricultural offsets in a carbon trading world9 February 2007As the search for solutions to climate change speeds up there are commercial opportunities for Australia says the peak organisation for the environment and sustainability industry. "Emissions trading is a critical catalyst to get smart, efficient technologies and carbon offsets into the marketplace" said Fiona Wain, CEO of Environment Business Australia (EBA). "Energy efficiency, recycling 'embodied energy', renewable energy, revitalising agricultural soils, and taking advantage of carbon offsets are things we can take advantage of right now" she added. Environment Business Australia will be running a forum for industry, policy makers and farmers on 'Agricultural offsets in a carbon trading world' in Melbourne on the afternoon and evening of Wednesday 14 February. Speakers include Andrew Colliver from the National Australia Bank; Hon Neil O'Keefe, Director, Water for Rivers, and former Shadow Minister for Primary Industry; Mal Peters, immediate past chairman of the NSW Farmers Association; Dr Jeff Baldock, carbon accounting specialist at CSIRO Land and Water; and Craig Clifton of national consulting company SKM. Victorian Deputy Premier and Minister for Environment, Water and Climate Change will speak at the dinner. |
